Celebrating Jewish Activism in the Civil Rights Movement
January 21 | 6:30pm-8:00pm | Slifka Center for Jewish Life | 80 Wall Street
Come join the Afro-American Cultural Center and the Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life as we celebrate and highlight the roles of the Jewish community in the Civil Rights Movement. We will honor the lives of James Carney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner who were killed during the Freedom Summer Campaign through musical selections performed by the Yale Gospel Choir and Magevet Jewish singing group. In addition, an art exhibit featuring the Golden Era of Black and Jewish Civil Rights work will be mounted by the American Jewish Archives. A reception to follow after the program will take place in Slifka’s art gallery that includes appetizers and desserts from Slifka’s Kitchen.

MLK Poetry Slam & Open Mic

Come join the Afro American Cultural Center in celebrating the legacy of Dr. King at our Poetry Slam and Open Mic on Friday Night. Performers will have the opportunity to share their poems and work as it relates to our theme: The Work Continues: Making Black Dreams Matter, civil rights movement, and social justice issues.
