The Afro-American Cultural Center was established at the height of the Black Arts Movement. The political, intellectual, and artistic spirit of the movement captivated the nation and elevated the experiences of Black people, and The House’s artwork and arts events continue to reflect our diaspora.
The House’s Art Gallery Manager works with students, student organizations, faculty/staff, and community members to coordinate art exhibitions and related events. The House generally features student and local artists’ work during these semesterly events.
The House’s Arts Liaison works with students and registered student organizations to develop and promote arts-related events including performances and exhibitions. They are a member of House staff and the Yale College Arts team.
The walls of The House are lined with pieces from various artists, including current students, alumni, and national and global artists of the Black diaspora. The House has featured a number of exhibitions in its second floor Art Gallery, including the artwork of our students and local artists. It’s also a great place for musical and spoken word performances because of the amazing acoustics! Please contact afamhousearts@gmail.com for more info.
