What the House Means to Me:

Meet Kristopher Harvey, a Senior in Calhoun College. He is the Co-Founder of Runway Inc. of Yale, a dancer and choreographer for Groove Dance Company, and has been a Staff member of the Afam House since Freshman year as well as a board member of BSC since Freshman year. After graduation, Kristopher will be working as an Assistant Buyer at Neiman Marcus Headquarters in Dallas, TX as a member of their Executive Development Program.

Here's Kris' take on what the House means to him:
"As someone who has been on the Afam House since Freshman year, the House has played an integral role in my Yale career. It has been the site at which I've met some of my closest friends as well as members of the Yale administration whom have had a profound impact on my development. I am so grateful to have a space to spend time with people who understand the difficulties of being a minority. We don't necessarily get together in this space and discuss our minority status, but it is good for me to have people here who can understand what I feel and just having them there is enough for me. Here at the House, I've heard about how past Yale graduates have charted their career paths after graduation and been encouraged to chart my own path regardless of the paths others around me would suggest. The House is so much more than a safe and social space but a building imbued with the history of racial struggle. It is indeed whatever you need it to be for you, and you can get so much more than a fun time from this space."
